Maxim Motor Company of Middleboro, Massachusetts was actually started in 1914, when Carlton Maxim decided that the current firefighting equipment on the market wasn't designed particularly well for fighting fires. He got a contract from Middleboro to build his own design and he purchased an E.R. Thomas Flyer passenger chassis and built a hose car for $2,500.00 The quality of his work greatly impressed others and thus his business expanded rapidly.
